FAQ

Questions, answered.

Are you a law firm?

No. Ficar is a relocation service: we organise your case, check documents and keep things moving. Anything that legally requires a lawyer is done by independent OAB-registered lawyers, who contract with you directly.

Do my documents need a sworn translation?

Usually yes. Foreign documents generally need an apostille in the country that issued them, plus a sworn translation (tradução juramentada) into Portuguese by a translator registered with a Brazilian Junta Comercial. Some exceptions exist, for example under certain Mercosur agreements. Your checklist tells you exactly which documents need what.

Do I have to be in Brazil?

It depends on the route. Some visas are requested at a Brazilian consulate abroad, others are filed inside Brazil. Registering with the Federal Police (RNM) after arrival is in person, and we prepare you for that appointment.

How long does it take?

It varies by route and by the authority handling it, from a few weeks for some visas to many months for some residency types. You get a realistic estimate with your quote.

What happens to my documents?

They're stored privately, shared only with the people working on your case, and deleted after your case closes, in line with Brazil's data protection law (LGPD).

Is this legal advice?

The information on this page is general and rules change. Your lawyer confirms the requirements for your specific case before anything is filed.
